US Department of Homeland Security

Well!  We have started a relationship with Homeland Security!!  One third  of our adoption process (a very significant third) is to gain US Citizenship and Immigration (USCIS) clearance, known as I-600A in adoption lingo.  The I-600A form is an Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition.  This form must be completed before an orphan is located (or even identified) for adoption by us. Once our paperwork is received and processed by USCIS, we will be issued a date and time to be fingerprinted at our local Federal Building.  The purpose this  I-600A requirement serves is that it defines the child as an "orphan" for immigration purposes.  So, the fact that we have this process underway is a big step closer...

Confused...???
